The Story

E. Jonsson Mora Knife – Type 2 (Large) | Rare Swedish Heritage

11cm

The Final Stocks | Traditional Birch Handle | Full-Size Utility Blade

A Legend in the Hand: The E. Jonsson Large Type 2

Following the closure of the E. Jonsson workshop in Mora, Sweden, these knives have transitioned from reliable tools to highly sought-after collector’s pieces. While the Type 1 is a master of detail, the Type 2 (Large) is built for the heavy lifting of campsite life.

Handcrafted by Erik and Holger Jonsson—the last independent makers to operate outside the modern Morakniv conglomerate—this knife represents the final era of traditional Swedish toolmaking.

The "Type 2" Advantage

The Type 2 offers a more substantial blade and handle, providing the extra grip and surface area needed for demanding bushcraft tasks.

  • Extended Carbon Steel Blade: A longer, thicker profile than the Type 1, offering superior leverage for batoning small kindling or heavy-duty slicing.

  • Fuller Ergonomic Grip: The traditional barrel-shaped birch handle is scaled up to fill the hand comfortably, reducing fatigue during long periods of use.

  • Scandi Grind Excellence: Forged with the world-famous Scandinavian grind, making it incredibly easy to maintain a razor-sharp edge with a simple whetstone.

  • Hand-Painted "Mora Red": Each handle is finished in the historic red stain that has identified Swedish forest knives for generations.

  • Original Sheath: Comes with its traditional, minimalist scabbard for secure carry.

The Story of a Vanishing Craft

The Jonsson brothers were the last of their kind. Erik (in his 70s) and Holger (in his 90s) continued to use machinery and methods that dated back decades. A workshop fire in 2019/2020 officially brought their story to an end, meaning no more E. Jonsson knives will ever be made.

Purchasing a Type 2 isn't just about buying a knife; it’s about preserving a piece of the craftsmanship that made Mora the knife-making capital of the world.

Specifications & Condition:

  • Condition: New Old Stock (NOS). Unused but may show "character marks" from long-term storage in the original workshop.

  • Blade Material: Swedish High-Carbon Steel (requires a light oiling to prevent patina).

  • Handle: Traditional Stained Birch.

  • Best For: Heavy bushcraft, hunting, campsite food prep, and serious collectors.
