The Story

E. Jonsson Mora Knife – Type 1 (Small) | Original Swedish Heritage

9cm blade

Last of the Traditional Makers | Handcrafted in Mora, Sweden | Rare Collector’s Item

A Piece of Swedish Blade History

This is a rare opportunity to own an authentic piece of Scandinavian history. The E. Jonsson Type 1 (Small) was produced by one of the last independent traditional knifemakers in Mora, Sweden. Operating outside the larger "MoraKniv" group, the Jonsson family—led by Erik (now in his 70s) and Holger (who reached over 90)—represented the final chapter of a centuries-old tradition.

Note: Following a devastating fire at their workshop, E. Jonsson has unfortunately ceased trading. These knives are from limited remaining stocks and will never be manufactured again.

The "Type 1" Small Classic

The Type 1 is the quintessential Swedish utility knife. Its compact size makes it an exceptional tool for fine carving, whittling, and general outdoor tasks where precision is paramount.

  • Swedish High-Carbon Steel: Forged for extreme sharpness and ease of honing in the field.

  • Traditional Birch Handle: The iconic barrel-shaped handle offers a natural, ergonomic grip that stays comfortable even during prolonged use.

  • Signature Red Finish: Finished in the classic "Mora Red" paint, traditional to the region's heritage.

  • Minimalist Scabbard: Includes a simple, functional sheath for belt carry or pack storage.

Why Collectors Prize E. Jonsson Knives

Unlike mass-produced modern blades, E. Jonsson knives carry the soul of the makers. These were produced in small quantities using traditional methods that have now been lost to time. Collectors and bushcraft purists value the "E. Jonsson" stamp as a mark of an era before the consolidation of the Mora knife industry.

Ideal For:

  • Bushcraft & Woodcraft: Perfect for detailed carving and "Sloyd" work.

  • Militaria & Tool Collectors: A must-have for those documenting the history of Swedish blade manufacturing.

  • Gift for Enthusiasts: A meaningful gift for anyone who appreciates heritage tools with a story.

Condition & Authenticity

These knives are New Old Stock (NOS). While they are brand new and unused, they may show very minor signs of long-term storage or the "charming" irregularities of traditional hand-finishing—this is a testament to their artisanal origin.
